As a person who struggles with anxiety, intrusive thoughts and has dealt with severe depression and addiction in the past, mental health and the importance of being proactive in recovery is crucial. The day in and day out battle to fight negative, fearful thoughts can be an incredible burden and heavy weight to bear.

 

Reclaiming Life Art supports initiatives to break stigma, seek lasting solutions and share stories through art in order to find healing for mental health issues.

Here are just a few sobering stats about mental health today:​

  • 1 in 5 U.S. adults experience mental illness each year

  • 1 in 20 U.S. adults experience serious mental illness each year

  • 1 in 6 U.S. youth aged 6-17 experience a mental health disorder each year

  • 50% of all lifetime mental illness begins by age 14, and 75% by age 24

And now, another threat to mental health has arisen, coming from the harmful effects that over-utilizing social media can have, especially on the younger generations. Teen suicide has risen dramatically over the past decade. Some researchers have found a correlation between social media use and the risk of suicide...
